What would give you a calm confidence in your future, as the climate crisis hits?
If you get the urgency of planning for escalating climate risks in your own life, this workshop is for you. Today is the last day of our Flash Sale!
We’re just a bit more than a week away from the start of my Personal Climate Strategy Workshop.
The unfortunate truth is that we’ve already passed the point where people like us could place our trust in government policies, technological progress or international agreements to prevent a planetary crisis. The crisis is here.
Worse, now that the crisis is here, we can’t rely on distant authorities to save us from its escalating dangers. We’ve largely been left to navigate a landscape of spreading brittleness and haphazard responses, ourselves. Securing our futures is up to us. Few of us are ready.
This workshop empowers you to plan your way through the climate crisis.
How? With eight classes (including Q&As), a live workshop discussion, a decision-flow guide with daily contemplation prompts to help you clarify your own thinking, a curated in-depth resources guide for on-going learning, deeply discounted one-on-one calls with me, and the support of a cohort of remarkable peers, this workshop is simply the best single exploration anywhere of the problems you face — and the solutions you can use.
Here’s the syllabus. Check out what we’ll cover together. It’s a step-by-step education in how to understand the rapid changes and serious threats around us, and make a real-world plan for succeeding despite them
PERSONAL CLIMATE STRATEGY WORKSHOP SYLLABUS
October 7th - November 6th, 2025
(Each class is from 12:00-1:15 Pacific time, with a brief discussion afterward. All classes are recorded. You can learn at your own pace, and refer back to the videos, resources and guides whenever you need to refresh your plans.)
CLASS ONE // OCTOBER 7, 2025
YOU’RE NOT READY FOR WHAT’S ALREADY HAPPENED
When building a successful climate strategy, the first key is understanding your context as a discontinuity: a widening gap between new realities and existing beliefs and practices. You’ll learn the three major kinds of gaps in societal readiness for deepening discontinuity, and how each should inform your future planning. Finally, we’ll unpack why location is the best lens for seeing our choices when the speed of emerging events is nonlinear.
* Understand why what used to work no longer does.
* Gain clarity by seeing the broad patterns behind apparent chaos.
* Get leverage on your decisions about the future by tracking the increasing tempo of crisis events.
CLASS TWO // OCTOBER 9, 2025
SPOT CLIMATE LOSSES BEFORE THEY HAPPEN
Places and systems forced to work beyond their designed tolerances become brittle — in danger of sudden breakdowns that actually sap the ability to recover. When multiple systems in a given place are brittle, risks grow in non-linear ways. As risk rises, values drop. Much of the world is now overvalued, and a crash is coming. You’ll learn to spot where and how your life is enmeshed in systems that were built for a different climate, and how more rugged options work. You’ll understand how to avoid the three main climate dangers to your prosperity: The Brittleness Bubble, Brittleness Traps and Brittleness Overspill (or “Taxes.”) And you’ll learn how to work the “Triangle of Brittleness,” Alex’s framework for understanding and anticipating discontinuity risk.
CLASS THREE // OCTOBER 14, 2025
IDENTIFY BETTER LOCATIONS BEFORE THE RUSH
Ironically, because society at large still does not recognize discontinuity and brittleness, anyone who can recognize it has a distinct advantage — take this workshop if for no other reason than to understand this key point! Risky places and brittle systems are overvalued, but relative safety and ruggedization are actually undervalued. You’ll learn why we’re seeing the beginnings of a rush on relatively safe places and rugged assets, where a “ruggedization triangle” is already driving value gains. Waiting too long will expose you to a “relocation bottleneck” that could have far-reaching impacts on your ability to relocate or reposition. Spot future value early, and your personal climate strategy could make your future more secure and more successful.
CLASS FOUR // OCTOBER 16, 2025
HOW ARE WE ENDANGERED? (TRIANGLE PART ONE)
Life-planning has changed in this time of worsening dangers and deep uncertainties. You’ll learn how to clarify your Horizon of Concern: the timeframes you’re planning for and how they stack up against key crisis timelines and likely future scenarios. Alex will unpack the Endangerment corner of the triangle and highlight the major kinds of dangers that deserve your attention, how they combine and interact — and why dooming doesn’t make your thinking more realistic.
CLASS FIVE // OCTOBER 21, 2025
HOW EXPOSED IS THIS PLACE? (TRIANGLE PART TWO)
Sharpening your ability to judge risks to systems and sites (think: property) is a critical skill now, especially in light of the Trump administration’s ongoing attack on climate science and disaster response in the United States (with global ramifications). We’ll explore what makes a community (and its critical infrastructure) more or less prepared for the crisis. We’ll ask, what can (or can’t) be done to ruggedize a given place to enable it to thrive in discontinuity? What places probably can’t be saved?
CLASS SIX // OCTOBER 23, 2025
IS THIS COMMUNITY READY, OR NOT? (TRIANGLE PART THREE)
Threats define our future — but so, too, do our responses. For places to offer robust futures, they will also have to rapidly ruggedize. That takes working institutions with growing capacities. But decades of inertia are now being topped off by the intentional destruction of national capacities (especially here in the U.S.). The good news is that we can improve our ability to spot signs of inertia and estimate a place’s ability to act fast by looking at four key criteria. We’ll also discuss the role rising inequality plays in these decisions and the growing trend of private disaster avoidance and relief services.
CLASS SEVEN // OCTOBER 28, 2025
DESIGNING YOUR OWN CLIMATE STRATEGY
This is where the rubber meets the road. We’ll talk about meeting the challenges of wisely choosing a new location (hint: it’s more than looking at the climate rating on a real estate listing), or choosing to reposition regionally — or to dig in and build more capacity right where you are! We’ll touch on “toehold strategies” for relocating over time. We’ll explore different approaches to ruggedizing your home and working with others to ready your neighborhood. We’ll touch the implications for parenting, career, homebuying, investment and retirement strategies.
CLASS EIGHT // OCTOBER 30, 2025
BUILDING YOUR MOMENTUM
Most likely, you’re building a climate strategy to not only prepare yourself, but to ensure the (relative) safety of your loved ones — and possibly your friends, colleagues or employees. That means that successful strategy creation involves collaboration and communication. No strategy is very helpful if the people you love the most won’t agree to adopt it! We’ll talk about engaging the people you care about in purpose-based conversations about shared futures. We’ll talk about pulling together a personal “climate team.” We’ll have some straight talk about “climate isolation,” despair and doomloops — and why tending to our own mental hygiene and health is a key part of any strategy.
WRAP-UP WORKSHOP // NOVEMBER 6, 2025
WORKSHOPPING OUR STRATEGIES
In this 90 minute deep conversation with Alex and your peers, you’ll have a chance to ask your urgent questions, share your progress on a personal climate strategy or simply just hear how others in your cohort are thinking through their challenges. This is also a chance to reflect on all we’ve learned together in just 30 days.
